• Wax Museum (Surfers Paradise)
As Australia’s biggest museum of its kind, the Wax Museum boasts of its 110 life sized wax statues of British Crown Jewels and historical people of Australia. See the presidents, prime ministers, the royal family, dictators, and entertainers, among others, up close and personal, and marvel at how the images look too real. Hailed as the Greatest Wax Museum of the World, Wax Museum is open seven days a week from 10am.
• Surf World Gold Coast (Currumbin)
This museum is a must-see on your holiday on the Gold Coast because it is the only surfing museum in Queensland. Witness how the design and technology of the surf boards have gradually transformed since early 1930s. See astounding photos of surfing in its early years, as well as posters of movies and album covers about surfing. Then get to know Queensland’s history of surfing. Surf World Gold Coast is open daily from 10am to 5pm.
• Boomerang Art’s Aboriginal Fine Art Gallery (Southport)
Around since 1996, this gallery has a wide collection of brilliant Aboriginal paintings. As a member of the Australian Indigenous Art Trade Association, this gallery is open daily but tours are done strictly by appointment.
• King Opal (Helensvale)
Though not exactly located on the Gold Coast, but in Helensvale, it sure is worth it to visit this attraction. It houses the widest selection of exquisite Australian opals, which they get from miners. Australia has been known for its stunning gemstones since 1880s so this is something that shouldn’t be missed. Other things to expect from this place are opal cutting workshop and the historical background of opal. King Opal operates daily from 9am to 5pm.
